Other news from the April 8 board of education meeting.

The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education held a meeting on Monday, April 8. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Grants

  • The board accepted a donation in the amount of $2,300 from the New Hyde Park Road School PTA Sixth Grade Committee for the balance of the class trip aboard the Marco Polo Cruise.
  • A $1,050 grant was accepted from the Hillside Grade School PTA for the Petra Puppets Program.
  • A $190 grant was accepted from the New Hyde Park Road School PTA for Arithmetickles – Art Echo Children’s Theatre Centre.
  • A grant of $32 was accepted from the New Hyde Park Road School PTA for a Sky Dome Planetarium Assembly.
  • The amount of $763 was transferred from a previous donation for Grand Falloons Assembly s the entire assembly was paid through BOCES.
Contracts
  • The board approved a field trip contract for the Garden City Park School with the Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay.
  • A cultural arts program contract for the Hillside Grade School was approved with Petra Puppets. A contract for ATDW Dance Class was approved with UPK Harbor Child Care.
  • A letter of engagement was approved with R.S. Abrams & Co. to be the external auditors for the district for the 2013-14 school year.
Personnel
  • Director of pupil personnel services Dr. Raymond Brodeur will retire are of June 30, 2013.
  • Special education classroom aide Mary Calia will retire as of April 2, 2013.
  • The board appointed Luchina Fabrizi as a substitute door monitor as of April 9. The board appointed Jyoti-Nina Romani as a substitute classroom aide as of April 9.
Policies
  • The following district policies were adopted after their second readings: Appointments and Designations by the Board of Education, Appointment and Duties of the Claims Auditor, Duties of the School Physician/Nurse Practitioner, Regular Board Meetings, Use of School Facilities, Materials and Equipment, Public Access to Records, Code of Conduct on School Property, Non Discrimination and Anti-Harassment in the School District, Sexual Harassment of District Personnel.
  • First readings of were held on the following district policies: Purchasing; Accounting of Fixed Assets; Facilities: Inspection, Operation and Maintenance; Pest Management and Pesticide Use; Energy Conservation and Recycling in the Schools; Safety and Security; Fire Drills, Bomb Threats and Bus Emergency Drills; School Bus Safety Program.
Other Board News
  • The board received a grievance regarding credit reclassification from the New Hyde Park Teachers Association. The decision was declined.
  • The VFW requested use of the Manor Oaks and Hillside Grade School bands to participate in the Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
  • The board approved the property tax report card for the 2013-14 school budget as well as a tax anticipation note (TAN) in the amount not to exceed $5 million.
The next meeting of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education is Monday, May 20 at 8 p.m. at Manor Oaks.
