NHPM Bomb Threat May Have Been Caused By Game of Telephone

Assistant principals believe message started from a recent safety meeting.

The alleged bomb threat at Tuesday night is believed to be nothing more than a game of telephone that took a conversation and turned it into a bomb threat.

Assistant Principal Rosemary DeGennaro explained that there was a regular safety meeting recently at the high school. There are two representatives of the fire department in the group as well as some parents and Police Officer Nick Mosesso. Officer Mosesso heard about some people who potentially wanted to blow up a propane tank in the sump of not too far from the high school and shared that at the meeting. There was no specific date with the plan, DeGennaro said. Both DeGennaro and Assistant Principal Maria Hecht believe Tuesday night's bomb threat somehow stemmed from that.

Tuesday night the building was searched by the fire department, Gennaro said, and Principal Michael DeMartino added that the students practicing for the upcoming High School Musical performance this weekend were evacuated from the school. Nothing was found, Hecht said.

Attendance at the school this morning did not seem to be significantly impacted, Hecht noted, as if there is a sizable absence the principals usually receive a phone call in the morning. Just before 9 a.m. there was no such phone call.
