Notre Dame Collects Pajamas for Children with Cancer

The students were inspired by a kindergartener who has the disease.

Students at the have been collecting pairs of pajamas for children with cancer since the beginning of this year. As the school year is ending, the students have collected more than a dozen boxes filled with pajamas and have written letters to be included with each pair.

Seventh grader Allison Schillinger explained that she and other students were inspired by a kindergartener in the school who has the disease. Despite losing her hair and going through many other things, the student attends classes.

"It's amazing how they can get through all of it," seventh grader Victoria Gaspe said. Thomas Cotumaccio quickly added, "And still go to school."

Each grade was assigned a size pajama that they needed to get and teacher Karen O'Reilly said she anticipated each student would bring in a pair of pajamas. Instead, some families brought in bags.

"I couldn't believe how generous people were," O'Reilly said.

The pajamas will soon be brought to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola and distributed to the children.
