New Hyde Park National Merit Semifinalists

These students were among the highest performing in the state.

Ten students of New Hyde Park high schools, nine from and one from , were recently named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

These students from Herricks are: Anjali Agarwalla, William Band, Riti S. Bhalla, Sarah R. Chapin, Si Chen, Nirmita Doshi, Arvind G. Viswanathan, Lucy Yang and Vance Zuo. Jennifer Lee from New Hyde Park High School also made the list. 

Next, these academically seniors can competed for 8,300 National , which are worth more than $34 million and will be offered in the spring of 2012.

To qualify for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. An estimated 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing. Of those finalists, more than half will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
