Report: Herricks Among Nation's Top 500 High Schools

The findings are according to an annual list by U.S. News & World Report.

Herricks High School is one of the top performing schools in the country, according to this year’s U.S. News & World Report high school rankings.

Of 500 best high schools in the country, the school ranks 189th, and 33rd in New York State. The school had a STEM rank of 205.

The study looked at more than 19,400 public high schools, and takes into account such factors as participation rate in Advanced Placement courses and exams. In addition to test scores, the list also provides a breakdown of minority enrollment, the percentage of economically disadvantaged students enrolled, and the number of full-time teachers at the school.

The school’s AP participation rate is 77 percent. Its student body makeup i is 51 percent male and 49 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 57 percent.

The school scored 64.6 on the list’s College Readiness Index, 3.5 on math proficiency, 3.8 on English proficiency, and has a student-teacher ratio of 13:1.

Schools in the area within the top 500 are in Garden City, Rockville Centre, Great Neck, Syosset, New Hyde Park, Port Washington, Plainview and Half Hollow Hills.
