Sandy Aftermath Closes New Hyde Park and Herricks Schools Through Wednesday

School buildings closed through Wednesday due to power outages.

For many students getting Halloween off from school will be a real treat, but it will seem like a cruel trick fro administrators and teachers.

The impact of Hurricane Sandy will still be felt on Wednesday in New Hyde Park and Herricks as both the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District and New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District will remain closed thanks to the damage the storm has wrecked on the area, felling trees and severing power to the entire area.

The closings were announced on the Sewanhaka and New Hyde Park-Garden City Park school websites on Tuesday.
