Searingtown Students Study Earthworms and Raise Money in March

First graders welcome classroom pets and help Island Park School District.

During the month of March, Herricks first graders at the Searingtown School were very busy during the month of March.

Each first grade classroom welcomed their first classroom pets – earthworms. The excited students set-up their earthworm habitats and experimented with the earthworms to see how they reacted to light and dark and wet and dry environments, “dug in” and enjoyed experimenting with them. After a few weeks, students will let the earthworms go into their natural habitat and put them in the courtyard gardens.

To help raise money for the Island Park school district damaged by Hurricane Sandy, he schol collected money to earn a special day at Searingtown. Once enough was collected, it was donated to them and students celebrated with a special pajama day.
