Searingtown Students Welcome Back Fall and Begin Orchestra

Herricks students hold webcast with Kevin Henkes.

Searingtown Second Graders off to Spectacular Start

Searingtown’s Second Graders are off to a spectacular start as they have been extremely busy learning, socializing and adjusting to the routines of their new classes during the first month of school. Fundations, Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshops, enVisionMATH Common Core and Math Investigations in Number, Data, and Space, Designing Mixtures in Science, Health, and Social Studies have filled the students’ days with knowledge and fun.

The live webcast with author, Kevin Henkes, was remarkable and informative. Meeting and greeting all the parents at “Back-to-School” night was marvelous.

September’s monthly Character Education “Sear Reads” book selection, "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds, emphasized the importance of bravery, creativity, and self-expression. Our “Dot Week” festivities were just the beginning…as Searingtown students and staff will continue to “make a mark” throughout the year.

Celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of autumn together was awesome too. Thanks to the generosity of Searingtown’s phenomenal PTA, every student was given a brand new Searingtown School folder containing a t-shirt and pencil. The very entertaining Theatreworks Story Salad performance was also sponsored by the PTA.

Searingtown School - Third Grade Beginning Orchestra

The third grade beginning orchestra students are off to a terrific start, working on how to hold their instruments correctly with good posture. Third graders have learned the parts of their instruments and how to care for them. The students have earned how to pluck the strings using pizzicato and soon will be adding the left hand fingers to create new notes. The key to success is regular practice. Practice one skill at a time and repeat it until that skill is mastered.
