Sewanhaka Notebook: Nov. 22

Here are some of the highlights from the meeting.

If you missed the Board of Education meeting on Nov. 22, here are some highlights.

  • Dr. Ralph Ferrie recognized schools across the district for their recent achievements in sports. Notably, Olivia Chan of Sewanhaka became the high school girls swimming state champion for the 100-Yard Breaststroke and 2000Yard Individual Medley.
  • Student Anna Kuhlmey from Floral Park Memorial High School was congratulated for her outstanding art work being featured on the AP Studio Art Poster that is distributed nationally. Ferrie called her art "superb." 
  • Dr. Ferrie announced that Dr. Linda Opyr, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, is retiring. He wished her well as she proceeds into retirement and thanked her for giving him  a "significant historical perspective."
