A new Sewanhaka board of education member Anthony Maffea, Sr. from the Elmont school district was sworn into the board of education as well as other members of the board during the board’s reorganization meeting on July 11 at .
Maffea was voted onto the board by the local school district, replacing Lorraine Ferrigno previously held that position. Michael Jaime of the Elmont district was re-elected to his position and was also sworn into the board.
After his swearing in, board president Jean Fichtl welcomed Maffea saying that “I look forward to serving with you” and encouraging Maffea that if he has any questions to feel free to reach out to other members of the board.
Jean Fichtl was re-voted in by the board as its president and David Fowler was re-named the vice president. Both members were sworn in subsequent to the votes.
