Sewanhaka Notebook: Dec. 19

Here are the highlights from the meeting.

In case you missed Monday night’s board meeting, here are some of the highlights:

  • Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie visited each school building principal to review the building level budget and capital projects. “[I] spent one full day at each of our schools to meet and speak with teachers, support staff and administrators to get their ideas in terms of the district and to have a dialogue regarding some of the challenges that we’re going to have as we proceed in preparation for the 2012-2013 budget,” Ferrie said.
  • Students from the five different school choirs joined together in holiday attire to sing Christmas carols for the board of education. The performance included four songs conducted by the four different choral directors. “I’ve had the opportunity to attend some of your concerts, and it’s just phenomenal the way that you sound and how well you represent our district,” Ferrie said. “It’s certainly a tribute to your music teachers and choral directors.”
  • Dr. Linda Opyr, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, announced that she will be retiring from her position come Jan. 4. “I want to wish Dr. Opyr luck and happiness in her retirement said board president Jean Fichtl. “We wish you all the very best.”
