Sewanhaka Notebook: Oct. 25

Here are the highlights from the meeting.

If you missed Tuesday's  board of education meeting, here are the highlights:

  • The board was thanked by Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie who said, “Thank you so much for all you do and for your dedication and support that you provide for our staff, administration and our approximately 8,600 students.” District Clerk Joanne Cunningham handed out a gift to each of the board members as a token of appreciation.
  • Dr. Ferrie recognized and congratulated students of the class of 2012 for their recent distinction as being selected for outstanding achievement in the 2012 competition for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Of the 18 students honored, 12 were present to receive their award.
  • Dr. Ferrie also recognized and congratulated eight 2011 NYSSMA All-State Conference Award Winners, all which were present except one student.
  • Alison Battaglia from RS Abrams presented the audit report to the board and said the district received an unqualified opinion, which she said was, “One of the best opinions you can have,” and that there are reserves present, a healthy fund balance, no deficiencies and it was an overall smooth audit.
