Sewanhaka School District Excels Compared to State Report Card
Local schools beat the national average in some key ways.
The high schools in the blew New York State's average out of the water in several categories of academic proficiency, according to reports issued Friday by the New York State Education Department.

The District's numbers have remained relatively constant over the past three years. Its enrollment is 8,449 for the 2009-2010 school year. It was 8,462 the previous school year and 8,422 in the 2007-2008 school year.

The annual attendance rate has been 96 percent from the 2007-2008 school year through the 2009-2010 school year.
The district has gotten more experienced teachers this year with six percent of them having less than three years of experience and 46 percent who have a master's plus 30 hours or doctorate. The previous school year, 10 percent of teachers had less than three years of experience and 40 percent had a master's degree plus 30 hours or a doctorate.

The teacher turnover rate in the district has gone down. In the 2009-2010 school year, it was 17 percent for teachers with less than five years of experience; the previous school year it was 21 percent for that same type of teacher. For teachers more generally speaking, the turnover rate was nine percent this school year and 12 percent last school year.
