Special Education Discussed at NHP-GCP Board Meeting

Raymond Brodeur presented on the program Monday night.

Dr. Raymond Brodeur, New Hyde Park-Garden City Park director of Pupil Personnel Services, gave a presentation on the school district’s special education program on Monday night at the board of education meeting at .

“We ensure that all those who choose to work with students with disabilities have the skills and knowledge necessary to help educators to meet academic goals,” Brodeur said.

With highly qualified teachers, students are better prepared for their transition to adult learning and living, according to Brodeur.

He spoke of the district making high-quality based instruction and support and focusing on resources on teaching and learning.

“We’re looking to the future, we’re looking to helping them to focus to work
towards getting their high school diploma and to move on to college,” Dr. Brodeur said.

In addition, the district has been increasing parental involvement and working with inter-school PTA to re-establish the charter that was lost five years ago.

The district has been asked to create a third vice president in terms of special education and must demonstrate to Nassau PTA and to state PTA that they will continue to maintain parental involvement.

The inter-school meeting recently attracted 57 people to the first meeting and an ideally large number came to the second meeting to maintain it.
