Sports Author Skypes with Denton Avenue Students

Peter Golenbock speaks with Herricks students about book about Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese.

Denton students recently participated in a different type of author’s visit with Peter Golenbock author of  “Teammates.”

Lead teacher Mrs. Beth Rosenman and technology integration facilitator, Ms. Christine Southard arranged a Skype call with the author at his home in Florida.

Golenbock told the children the moving story of how Jackie Robinson became the first black player in major league baseball and how Pee Wee Reese took a stand supporting Jackie’s right to play.

Rosenman's husband is a producer and host of SportTalk, a weekly podcast who  meets many national figures in professional sports. Mr. Golenbock has been a guest on his show a number of times.

The school wishes to thank Mr. Rosenman for helping to arrange the Skype visit with one of the nation’s best known sports authors. Members of the Denton Broadcast Club had the opportunity to interview Mr. Golenbock and Ms. Southard will help the students to create a video of the interview to post on the Denton website to share with parents, students and the Denton community.
