Photo: Two Friends and Memories of the Fallen

Young and old meet at ceremonies this week.

After the final notes of TAPS rang out Monday and speakers finished their special memorial messages, children swarmed the lawn of the New Hyde Park Village Hall.

While others combed through the grass and leaves looking for shotgun shells from the blanks fired during a 21-gun salute, others posed in uniforms of their own near a simple memorial. A helmet was rested on top of a shotgun stuck in the ground in front of Village Hall and some parents took the opportunity to capture the memory on camera. These two young boys in uniform stood in front of the memorial for a few moments.
