Kristi Kofler Describes New Hyde Park Girls' Volleyball's Team Effort

Kofler's attitude is that there is no I in team.

There are many things that senior Kristi Kofler loves about the game of volleyball. She loves the quick pace and the nonstop action, but most of all loves the fact that it is a team sport.

"To me volleyball is all about team effort," Kofler said. "It's not about one or two great individual players and everybody else. It's about the whole team working together when we're out there on the court."

She added that she plays softball in the spring and that the two sports are totally unlike one another.

"I think softball is more of an individual effort kind of sport," she said. "But volleyball to me is so team oriented and that is what I like about it."

Not that she dislikes softball. In fact, if it wasn't for softball, Kofler would have never gotten involved with the volleyball team in the first place.

"Coach [Jackie] Rizzuti is also my softball coach and she is the one who encouraged me to try out for volleyball," Kofler said. "I had never really played before but I guess she saw potential in me or something."

Rizzuti obviously has an eye for talent as Kofler has shined in her role as team Libero this season.

"By the end of the season I'd like to get to 100 digs and have at least 40 aces."
