Greg Simeon Will Remember His New Hyde Park Basketball Playing Days for the Rest of His Life

The senior center was an impact player for the Gladiators this year.

center Greg Simeon's best memory of this past season was his 24-point night against on Dec. 17. It was the conference opener for both teams and the big center played like a man among boys.

"It was our first home game to start conference play," said Simeon. "I was just really focused and was in the zone that night."

Simeon's 24 points was his career high. He also was a beast on the boards collecting 12 rebounds.

Simeon has been playing for Head Coach Don Rood for three years and says his senior year was by far his most successful.

"I think that every year I've played for Coach Rood I've gotten better," Simeon said. "But I consider this season my breakout year and I thought I really took my skills to the next level."

His skills included finding ways to get the ball to leading team scorers and and making his presence felt on the defensive end.

"I like to think of myself as an all-around contributor on the court," Simeon said. "I don't mind sitting back and helping my teammates score but if I have to I have the ability to take over games."

That ability was obvious in the conference opener against Division and in a 15-point night the following week against .

The Gladiators recently lost a close playoff game to 69-60.

"We had our opportunities against them but our shots weren't falling."

Simeon said the loss hurt but it will not put a blemish on his basketball career at .

"I had so much fun with these guys and with the coaches," Simeon said. "I will remember these times for the rest of my life."
