Islanders Set for First Game at Barclays Center

National Hockey League team will play an exhibition game against the New Jersey Devils this September.

The New York Islanders on Tuesday announced they would play an exhibition game at the Barclays Center on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. against the New Jersey Devils.

The Islanders were supposed to play an exhibition game at the new arena last fall, but the National Hockey League lockout wiped away the event.

The Islanders-Devils game will be the first NHL game ever played at the Barclays Center, which will become the full-time home of the Islanders in 2015.

"There's a lot of excitement about professional hockey bound for Brooklyn, where the Islanders have a terrific opportunity to grow their fan base and build their brand," Brett Yormark, Barclays Center's chief executive, stated in a press release. "The team is showing great resurgence this season, with young star John Tavares, and is on the verge of making the playoffs."

Tickets for the game will go on sale to the general public on April 17.
