New Hyde Park Baseball Wins Against Wantagh, 18-8

New Hyde Park wins against Wantagh in final game of the series.

Host won the final game of a three game series  on Thursday against Wantagh by a score of 18-8. This loss drops Wantagh to 9-4 in Conference A-1 and 11-4 overall. New Hyde Park boosts their conference record to 3-11 and 5-11 overall.

Heroes: New Hyde Park accomplished a rare feat on the day -- four of their players had three hits apeice. Those players were J.T. O’Callahan, Anthony Simone, Kevin Towey and Joe Carbone. Simone also pitched an astounding 6 1/3 innings worth of baseball.

Turning Point: The score was 5-4 with New Hyde Park heading into the bottom of the second when Wantagh made a pitching change and New Hyde Park capitalized. They drew walks and found ways to get on base. Combining patience with crucial timing, they built a very comfortable lead. New Hyde Park continued the hot streak on their way to a win by the score of 18-8.

Quotable: Wantagh Coach Mike Nino said, “They played great today. They played great from the beginning. It was all on them today. They capitalized when they needed to. We are going to have to sweep Garden City in order to pull out the conference win.”

New Hyde Park Head Coach Doug Robins was pleased with his team's performance.

“We put some good swings on the ball," he said. "Our approach is to be short to the ball. All our guys played well today. I am very pleased with how everyone swung the bats. We got to play some guys that don’t get to normally start.”

Bottom Line: New Hyde Park ended their series with Wantagh on a high note. They were able to explode in the second inning and played some great team baseball. They found the holes in the defense and clawed for every run. They also got big hits when they needed it, recording multiple triples and doubles. This combination, along with a few walks, led to a very high octane offense for New Hyde Park. They will look to continue their hot streak heading into their next series.
