New Hyde Park Bluedevils Open Spring Season with Split

Boys 14U team splits double-header with Bethpage Eagles.

The New Hyde Park Bluedevils (14U) travel baseball team opened the spring season with a split against the Bethpage Eagles.

New Hyde Park dropped the opening game 5-2, despite the heroics of Brandon LaFroscia who tripled in 2 runs to tie the game in the fifth inning. New Hyde Park had chances in the sixth and seventh to tie the score but the Eagles prevailed.

The second game featured the pitching showcase of Doug Obidienzo and Mike Thornton, who combined to throw a one hitter and a 7-0 victory. Obidienzo pitched six strong innings, giving up the one hit and striking out seven. Thornton came on in relief in the seventh, only needing 8 pitches to set the Eagles down in order.

The New Hyde Park offense was provided by Anthony Pomara, Mike Parasconda, LaFroscia, Liam Gallagher, Anthony Millan and John Hayes who supplied key hits and drove in the runs.

The defensive highlight of the game was a double play from RF Luke Iandoli to first baseman Liam Gallagher who then turned and fired a strike at home to catcher Vincent Balletta to complete the play.
