New Hyde Park Football Topples Highlanders 41-26

Gladiator RB Christian Trasolini leads New Hyde Park to early blowout win over Herricks.

The game between New Hyde Park and Herricks was over after the first quarter as the Gladiators scored an early 22 points to put the Highlanders out of reach.

New Hyde Park starting quarterback Nick Perrone threw for three early touchdown passes to blow the game open including a 58-yard touchdown pass to senior Tim Foley.

“It was a great win for us today,” Gladiators head coach Kevin Dolan said after the win at home. “We had a lot of good performances from a lot of players including halfback, Paul Reo who caught a 52 yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game.”

New Hyde Park had dropped their season opener to Garden City a week ago.

Herricks was not able to get on the board until midway through the second quarter when quarterback Adrian Kwan tossed a 3-yard pass to Austin Stoner in the end zone to make the score 22-7. The Gladiators would end the half with a field goal from Christian Trasolini.

The Highlanders opened the second half with a touchdown run from Kwan, but New Hyde Park quickly struck back as running back Christian Trasolini galloped 68 yards for a touchdown to bring the score to 31-13. Trasolini was a do-everything player for New Hyde Park, running for 115 yards on 5 carries, scoring a touchdown and kicking 3 field goals.

“He is definitely a playmaker and our go to guy,” Dolan said. “He was absolutely the MVP for us today.”

New Hyde Park would add a late touchdown run from Perrone and a field goal from Trasolini to give the Gladiators the 41-26 victory.

“It’s hard to be competitive when you get down by three scores early in the first quarter,” Herricks coach Mike Yoo said. “We were battling from behind the whole game and that's not an easy thing to do against a team like New Hyde Park.”

The Gladiators next game will be Friday under the lights at Michael Tully Park at 6 p.m. against Carey. It will be the school’s first night game in 20 years.

Herricks will be home on Saturday against Long Beach at 1:30 p.m.
