New Hyde Park Girls 11/12 Opens 2012 State Tournament with Rout

New Hyde Park downs Fredonia 12-1.

The New Hyde Park Little League Girls’ Softball 11/12 Year Old team opened the 2012 New York State Tournament in a big way, defeating the Fredonia Little League team by a score of 12-1.

New Hyde Park opened the game with a big 6-run first inning which included a lead-off triple as one of 3 hits from Kayla Fitzpatrick as well as a homerun and 5 RBI’s off the bat of Maggie Donnelly.

Gabby Morales also nailed a triple in the first as one of two hits while Jenny Hickey also contributed two and scored twice. Ann Grimshaw smoked a double and scored twice. Emma Nidermaier picked up a pair of RBI thanks to her bases-loaded single in the first. Nicole Kuzler had a single and walk in her only 2 at-bats.

Jenny Hickey picked up the win, striking out 5 batters in 2 innings of work, while allowing just one single.

Fitzpatrick pitched 2 shutout innings in relief, striking out 5 and giving up just 1 hit. Melissa Ward also fanned 3 and also allowed just 1 hit in her 2 innings of relief.

On defense Emma Nidermaier went out to make a spectacular sliding catch in center to take a hit away from Fredonia. Sophia Jacoby had 2 put-outs and an assist on the night.

New Hyde Park moves on to round 2 in the double elimination tournament with a game on July 11 against Oneida.
