New Hyde Park Girls 11/12 Softball Overpowers Oneida 13-3

Team will face Stony Point for chance to move to championship game.

The New Hyde Park Girls 11/12 softball team continued their winning streak at the New York State Little League Tournament with a 13-3 win over Oneida Little League.

Against Oneida, New Hyde Park scored early with 2 first-inning runs on walks to Kayla Fitzpatrick and Jenny Hickey before catcher Ann Grimshaw ripped a base hit passed the Oneida thirdbasemen to plate both.

Gabby Morales led off the second inning with a double to right center to start a 6-run second inning.

Emma Nidermaier, Fitzpatrick and Hickey followed with singles before winning pitcher Melissa Ward doubled in 2 runs and Grimshaw followed with a triple to left. Morales, batting for the second time in the inning, laced a double to complete the scoring in the second.

New Hyde Park finished off the game in the fourth inning when Ward, Grimshaw, Maggie Donnelly and Nicole Kuzler each singled for 3 runs. Ward pitched a complete game 3 hitter striking out 9 batters for the win.

New Hyde Park now moves into the winners bracket final, which will be held Friday at 8pm at Stony Point Little League against Half Hallow Hills.

The winner will then move on to the championship game on Sunday.
