New Hyde Park's Coaches Invitational Gymnastics Meet A Success

Liana Mercante and Katja Anuth of Sewanhaka's gymnastics team were shining at the 16th Annual Coaches Invitational.

The 2010-2011 high school gymnastics season culminated with a 19-team showcase meet, the Coaches Invitational, hosted by on Saturday. 

Ellen Charalambous of Wantagh won the Conference I All-Around title with a total score of 29.075, while Minnie Hue of North Shore won the Conference II All-Around with her 28.175.  For Sewanhaka, Liana Mercante finished third in vault and fourth in the uneven bars as part of her showing at the meet.

Sewanhaka's Katja Anuth came in second in the Conference I balance beam competition with a score of 7.85.  Hicksville gymnast Rebecca Rilling took the event with her 8.5 routine, which was the highest individual score of the afternoon.  Jasmine Williams also put in a strong performance on the balance beam, finishing sixth (out of 25 competitors) with her score of 7.425.  Liana Mercante also competed in beam for Sewanhaka, earning a 7.0 for her effort.

Jasmine Williams led the way for Sewanhaka on the floor exercise where she scored a 7.0 and finishing in a tie for tenth place.  Jessica Santoli and Stephanie Danelson were Sewanhaka’s other floor exercise competitors.

Dylan Fujimoto of Lawrence won the Conference II vault with an 8.075, with Mercante finishing in a third-place tie with Massapequa’s Kate Moran; their score was 8.025.  Katja Anuth and Jackie DiMarco finished 15th and 18th in the event.

In the uneven bars, Ellen Charalambous of Wantagh, the meet’s all-around winner, came first with a 6.6.  Sewanhaka's Mercante’s score was 6.15.  In addition to Mercante, Erin Rostkowski also competed on the bars.

The coach of the Sewanhaka squad, Katie Mosie, was proud of her team and grateful for the opportunity to host the meet. 

"I just want to thank all of the Nassau County coaches, the Sewanhaka District athletic directors, and the Sewanhaka parents for making the day a success," Mosie said. "Congratulations to all of the gymnasts for their hard work and dedication this season.  Being chosen to compete in this meet is truly an honor."
