New Hyde Park Little League Boys Minors defeats Pelham Bay in the first round of the New York Section V Tournament  

District champions New Hyde Park Boys Minors and Pelham Bay exchanged the lead five times this past Saturday with New Hyde Park ending up on top with a 3-2 win in seven innings over Pelham Bay.

Taking the game into an extra inning, New Hyde Park pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning: pitcher Ethan Libonati worked for 4 innings with 11 strike outs while Steven Brendel, another lefty, came in as a reliever with 5 K's.

In the top of the second Pelham Bay grabbed the early 1-0 lead with a couple of  singles. New Hyde Park then put on a hitting clinic of their own as Julian Belardo’s line one to right field followed by Michael Dominguez crushing the ball for a double. Nick O’Shea drove a single and succeeded in contributing another base-run. Philip Iandoli stole home, tying the game in the fifth for New Hyde Park.

The New Hyde Park team then added another run in the sixth, going up for good and sealed the deal with an RBI single by Emmanuel Ajewole, driving in Michael Hayes. New Hyde Park won their first game and played Sunday in the Bronx against Staten Island.
