New Hyde Park Little League Roundup: April 19-23

New Hyde Park Little League (NHPLL) Girls Major Division

The junior New Hyde Park 2 team, sponsored by Mathnasium of New Hyde Park, had some nice pitching by Claire Mikowski who went two innings with 5 Ks, 3 runs allowed and scoring 1 run in their 13-6 loss to Franklin Square 2 team.

Sophia Giamarino went 1-2 with an RBI and scored 1 run and her behind the plate performance was excellent. They again faced Franklin Square 2 on Friday, April 19 under the lights at Pistillo Field with wind, fog and cold included. Mikowski again went 4 innings with 10 Ks, allowing only 2 hits and 2 runs in their 6-7 loss. While Ashley Rullo and Paige Jones made  pitching appearances, Franklin Square 2 edged out New Hyde Park. In the last inning with bases loaded No. 16 (Destiny) got the game winning hit to left field. New Hyde Park’s Minor League younger team Mathnasium is now 0-2 for their season of 19 games.

Megan Bleeker (P) of the New Hyde Park 1 team, sponsored by Margaret Zadnik DDS PC, lead the team to an 8-1 win over Garden City South 2 team at Cherry Valley Field in their home opener as well as showing up on offence with a nice triple on the day.

New Hyde Park 1 faced Valley Stream for their second win of the week 6-5 behind Marisa Ogden’s pitching who went three innings with 7 Ks and no runs allowed while Katie Hopkins lead their offence with another triple. For their third game of the season Bleeker again led them in pitching with 12 Ks while Katie Hopkins lead the offensive's push going 3-3 and Maria Ladato owned home plate as their catcher. They won 3-0 in the tight game against West Hempstead 1 team making them 3-0 on the season.
