On April 27 New Hyde Park Giant Ind. made an unbelievable 14-0 run steak to defeat the Malverne 2 team by a score of 18-14 at Averill South field. Although no individual highlights were provided for the game it’s safe to say the entire team was a highlight when you have a 14 run streak to take a win.

The following day the team fed off the previous game high against West Hempstead at West Hemstead High School field. A rare triple-play was started with a line drive back at pitcher Kelly Mikowski who snapped a 1-5-3 (Kelly Andreuzzi & Tiffany Moreno) and caught the West Hempstead girls too far off to get back. While catcher Angelina Fernandez put a halt to West Hempstead’s aggressive base running by throwing out back-to-back attempts to steal second base in the bottom of the fifth inning with ascore of 4-3 in favor of New Hyde Park. Julia Panarella finalized the day with a base hit & two RBIs to push New Hyde Park to the final 9-3 victory.

New Hyde Park’s William A. Gross Construction team is having a good season thus far. Their manager reported that they are 3-2 on the season and have been developing well.

New Hyde Park Little League (NHPLL) Girls Minor Division

On April 24 the New Hyde Park 2 team, Mathnasium, faced West Hempstead 2 (WH2) at Averill Field and seized their first win of the season with a score of 10-5. Paige Jones lead them off pitching two innings allowing no runs, with 5 Ks and catching a linedrive back at her for her sixth out of the two innings. Isabella Torres led the offence going 2-2 and scoring 2 runs while Lexi Schneidmuller’s practice paid off with another hit and a crazy advancement to second base, she just kept going.

On April 26 Mathnasium faced off against Franklin Square 1 at Pistillo Field. Everything seemed to come together for the girls, leading off the first inning with three doubles and two singles. Their bats stayed alive with four doubles, eight singles and only three strikeouts for the night. Julia Broadman and Faith Lusk lead the walks with two each and Erin Batting kept to her name with a single, double, walk, 2 RBIs and a run scored while Isabella Torres went 3-3 with two singles, a double, an RBI and 3 runs scored. Claire Mikowski had four strong innings with 11 Ks and a 60-percent strike percentage while Paige Jones closed with a pop fly back to her and 2 Ks to end the 16-4 win over Franklin Square 2 squad.

Mathnasium started off May with am 11-2 win over West Hempstead 1. The teams finally met that magical date where they are allowed to work on stealing bases. The girls have been working hard on their base running and skills and it paid off with double digit steel numbers. The pitching crew each saw time and only allowed one earned run with 9 Ks over four innings of work. Ashley Rullo and Sophia Giamarino worked behind the plate while Sophia had one hit and three runs and Jennifer Scanlon toughed it out playing SS and left field for two walks and two runs scored. Scanlon was feeling ill at start time and fought through it to play a complete game.

New Hyde Park Little League’s Zadnik DDS faced Valley Stream, who gave them their first lost 8-6 at Fireman’s Field. Emily Locker and Gabby Greco scored two runs each while Maria Ladato and Brianna Bonano had an RBI each. However, the busy bee was Katie Hopkins who pitched her first game ever, scored two runs and had a deep drive to the outfield for an RBI. Manager Maureen Ogden said it was a good game win or lose. On April 29 Zadnik DDS opposed West Hempstead 2 at New Hyde Park Road School field.

New Hyde Park 1 Zadnik DDS is now 3-1 while her sister team New Hyde Park 2 Mathnasium is 3-2.
