Giant Industrial was supposed to face off against Floral Park on May 2 but Floral Park unfortunately could not field a team for the day. On May 4 Giant Industrial faced off with Malverne 1 and walked away with a 17-2 win with the assistance of several call-ups to help them field a team.

Giant then met with West Hempstead on May 6 and again pulled off a 18-10 win at Averill Field. In Giant Industrial’s fourth game of the period they spared with Garden City South 2 team at Carey High School and left the field with a 20-5 win. This makes a seven-game winning streak for New Hyde Park’s Giant Industries, keep up the hard work girls. New Hyde Park’s William A. Gross only had one game for the period and they faced off with Garden City South 1 team. Although William A. Gross was short handed, like most of New Hyde Park’s opponents this week, they were augmented by their sister team and won the closely contended competition 18-12.

Giant Industrial is 8-1 while William A. Gross is 4-2 on the 2013 season.

On May 4 Mathnasium faced off with the tough Valley Stream team. They played to the game limits and ended in an 8-8 tie. Paige Jones lead the pitching crew for 4 innings, giving up one earned run and 5 unearned. Claire Mikowski came in to close with bases loaded with the score at 6-8 and Valley Stream’s leadoff batter at the plate. Mikowski struck out one and the second batter hit a line drive through shortstop Sophia Kasimatis to bring in the tying run when the umpire called the game due to time limit restrictions.

Sophia Kas had a single on the day and Julia K and Paige J had two singles and three RBIs each. Stephanie Milinic had three walks and scored 2 runs while Faith Lusk had a hit and scored a run. The teams traded 9 runners with limited stealing rules in effect.

Mathnasium battled Valley Steam again on May 6. Both teams were well matched and challenged each other on both sides of the plate. This time New Hyde Park came out on top 5-2 in 5 and-a-half innings. With New Hyde Park behind 3-1 in the fourth inning, Sophia Giamarino lead off with a single followed by a walk from Erin Batting.

Paige Jones then ripped a shot to right center for another single and one RBI followed by Claire Mikowski’s monster double to right center again which cleared the bases with two RBIs and taking the lead then advancing for the score on an overthrow to second. Rullo and Batting had two walks and two stolen base each and the pitching crew threw 63 percent for strikes with 16 Ks and 5 hits on the evening.

Zadnik DDS faced off with the strong pitching of Garden City South 2 to win 8-2. With three call-ups to field the New Hyde Park team the younger girls came ready to play as Sara Hopkins and Lauren Krupa scored 3 runs with two hits each and two RBIs between them to lead the offense. While (P) M. Bleeker kept Garden City South at bay with her defenses’ help the only 2 runs allowed came off an awesome homerun by the opposing pitcher.

Mathnasium is now 4-2-1 and Zadnik DDS is 4-1.
