New Hyde Park Olympian Watch 2012: Day 1

Following New Hyde Park’s Lisa Karcic and the Croatian basketball team at the London Olympics.

For those of you who are Olympic junkies or who just want to know how our local Olympian did in their latest match, Patch is keeping track of all the scoring as and hold themselves up to the Olympic ideal of “Citius, Altius, Fortius” in their quest for glory at the 30th Olympic Summer Games in London.

In their first game on Saturday, the Croatian women faced a tough challenge in Team USA, losing 81-56. While it took nearly half the first quarter for any basket to be made, the US put on a show, but only led 31-28 at the half as the Croatian team was able to hang in with timely shots from behind the arc.

The Croatian women briefly took a lead in the third quarter, keeping up with their American counterparts  to end the third at 53-45, but a 28 point fourth sealed the victory for the United States. Croatia only managed 9 points in the final frame.

The USA went to 1-0 in pool play while Croatia fell to 0-1.

Karcic saw 11:03 worth of floor time, but went 0/3 from field goal range and nabbed 4 rebounds and another two on offense.
