New Hyde Park Olympian Watch 2012: Day 5

Following New Hyde Park's Lisa Karcic and the Croatian basketball team at the London Olympics.

For those of you who are Olympic junkies or who just want to know how our local Olympian did in their latest match, Patch is keeping track of all the scoring as and hold themselves up to the Olympic ideal of “Citius, Altius, Fortius” in their quest for glory at the 30th Olympic Summer Games in London.

After making their , the Croatian women’s basketball team is still searching for it’s first Olympic victory after dropping an 89-70 loss to the Czech Republic and in the Olympic tournament.

The Croatian women shot better than their opponents this time out, getting .430 from the floor compared to the Czech Republic’s .413. However, the Czech women were better at the line, nailing 12 of 16 compared to 9 of 18 for Croatia.

Croatia was actually ahead in the third period, taking an 60-57 lead into the final quarter before the Czech Republic exploded with a 32-10 run to close out the win.

In total the Croatian women had 15 turnovers compared to just 7 from the Czech Republic. Croatia was 5-14 from behind the arc compared to the Czech Republic, who made 11-30.

Forward Sandra Mandir lead the Croatian scoring with 20 points, including two FGs, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Karcic played for 2:48 in the game but once more did not did not account for any of the scoring or other stats.
