New Hyde Park Sports Notebook: April 15-21

There are so many sports out in the New Hyde Park area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local New Hyde Park teams have been up to this week:

New Hyde Park:

Baseball: The Gladiators won both of their games this week. On April 15 they routed West Hempstead 13-1 behind a strong outing from Nick Perrone in which he struck out seven in six innings. John Tomasini was 3-for-3 with two RBI. The next day, they shutout Island Tress 11-0. They were led by Anthony Hickey's complete game in which he struck out 10 and allowed only two hits. Anthony Simone was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Softball: The girls won two of their three games this week. On April 15, they posted a 2-0 shutout over Floral Park. Kristin Hickey was 3-for-3 with an RBI single. Nicole DiCola was the winning pitcher, tossing five solid innings and striking out four. On April 17 they won 6-1 over South Side. Geena Fornataro contributed on both sides of the ball, recording the victory with nine strikeouts in the complete game and also went 3-for-4 with a home run at the plate. Then on April 19, they lost a close one 2-1 against Mineola. Lauren Fischer hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning.

Boys Lacrosse: On April 16 the Gladiators lost 13-2 against Jericho. Noah Starr was the star of the game with six goals and two assists. They turned around their fortune on April 20 with a 13-4 victory over Herricks. Matt Dluginski paced the offense with six goals and two assists.

Girls Lacrosse: New Hyde Park had a rough week, dropping all three games. On April 15 the girls lost 16-10 to Floral Park. Jessica McAllister led the way with seven goals. The next game was on April 17 when they lost 18-10 to East Meadow. Despite the loss, Jill Graziano scored five goals and one assist. On April 19 they were bested 12-8 by Mepham. Ashley Donnelly and Erin Gilroy both scored three goals for Mepham.

Herricks:

Baseball: In their only game of the week on April 18, the Highlanders were shutout 10-0 by Valley Stream North. Billy Patsos was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Greg Garcia was the winning pitcher, tossing five shutout innings.

Softball: The girls lost all three games this week. On April 16, it was a 17-4 blowout by Calhoun. Gianna Saladino went 3-for-3 with four runs scored. On April 17, they lost 15-1 to Syosset. Danielle Zurek tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. The next day they were also defeated, this time by the score of 16-4 to Hicksville. Marisa Ciriello had a fantastic day going 6-for-6 with four RBI.

Boys Lacrosse: On April 16 the Highlanders fell to Roslyn 12-1. Seth Bolnick had four goals and four assists to lead Roslyn. Their next game was on April 20, losing 13-4 to New Hyde Park. Arthur Syed scored two goals for the Gladiators in the loss.

Girls Lacrosse: The Lady Gladiators on the other hand had a great week, winning all three of their games. On April 15 they notched a 16-5 win over Great Neck South. Bridgette Stacom record three goals. On April 17, they steamrolled Glen Cove 22-3. Lauren Bascelli scored five goals, and Victoria Marano contributed with four goals of her home. Two days later, they defeat East Rockaway by the score of 18-7. Allison Ricchiutti scored four goals and had two assists in the win. Kristina Stacom had eight saves.
