New Hyde Park Sports Notebook: March 24-31

Patch will get you caught up on all your local sports action.

There are so many sports out in the New Hyde Park area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local New Hyde Park teams have been up to this week:

New Hyde Park:

Boys LacrosseThe Gladiators were defeated on March 28 by Massapequa by a score of 16-6. Ryan Tierney was the playmaker as he totaled four goals and two assists for the Chiefs. Charles Cini and Dan Chiofalo each recorded two saves for New Hyde Park.

Herricks:

Baseball: The Highlanders were shutout 4-0 on March 27 by Port Washington. They were the victim of an incredible performance by Bryce Keller who struck out 20 batters in seven shutout innings.

On March 28 they defeated Uniondale 10-3. Tyler Idaspe's two-run home run turned out to be the difference in the game. The winning pitcher was Zachary Osieczkowski.

On March 30 they were defeated 12-3 by Calhoun. Tom Joannou and Kevin Hiss both drove in three runs with Zach Mastrangelo as the winning pitcher.

Boys Lacrosse: Elmont ousted Herricks 14-4 on March 30. Matthew Penalvert was the difference as he totaled four goals and one assists. Daniel Crawford also had a huge game scoring three times and adding four assists. Gerard Boniello totaled eight saves for Herricks.

Girls Lacrosse: The girls triumphed over Sewanhaka by a score of 18-5 thanks to 11 firstphalf goals. Lauren Bascelli led the team with three goals and three assists, having a hand in each of the team's first six goals. Kristina Stacom recorded five saves in goal.
