New Hyde Park Sports Notebooks: April 1-7

Patch will get you caught up on all your local sports action.

There are so many sports out in the New Hyde Park area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local New Hyde Park teams have been up to this week:

New Hyde Park:

Baseball: On April 1 the Gladiators beat Hewlett 9-1. Nick Perrone was the winning pitcher. Anthony Simone went 3-3 with three RBI.

On April 2 the boys were edged by North Shore 4-3. Ryan Perro pitched 6.1 innings for the victory with Ken Daley going 2-4 with two runs scored.

On April 4 New Hyde Park beat Great Neck North 13-7. Anthony Simone went 5-5 with six RBI to lead the Gladiators and he pitched the final four innings for the win.

Softball: The girls won all three games this week. On April 2 they won 15-5 over Mineola. On April 4 they won 7-6 over Division and on April 6 they won 6-5 over Oceanside. Geena Fornataro was the winning pitcher in all three games.

Boys Lacrosse: On April 2 the Gladiators lost 17-12 to Mineola. Tim Gill scored a career-high 4 goals.

On April 4 the boys defeated Clarke 18-6. Christian Trisolini scored six goals and had five assists.

On April 6 the Gladiators notched their third straight with a win over Sewanhaka by the score of 18-10. Trisolini scored six goals with an assists while Matt Duglinski added five goals and two assists.

Girls Lacrosse: On April 2 the girls fell 21-9 to Island Trees despite five goals from Jillian Graziano. Natalie Sulmonte scored seven for Island Trees.

On April 4 the Lady Gladiators edged Bethpage 9-8 thanks to a game-winning goal from Jillian Graziano who had four goals on the day.

Herricks:

Baseball: The Highlanders had a rough week as they dropped all three games. On April 1 they lost 6-2 to MacArthur. Rob Andreoli was the winning pitcher and also drove in two runs.

On April 2 they lost 10-2 to Mepham. Shane Agostino led the way with three hits and two runs scored.

On April 4 the Highlanders were routed 11-1 by Valley Stream Central. Joe Picillo was the winning pitcher and also went 3-4 with four RBI.

Softball: On April 3 the girls lost 14-1 to Bellmore JFK. Sydney Yormak went 3-3 with four RBI.

On April 5 they lost 8-7 to Plainview JF thanks to a five-run sixth inning. Geiger and Rivera hit home runs for the lady Highlanders.

Boys Lacrosse: On April 3 they lost 4-3 to Glen Cove despite 12 saves form Luke Grgas and two goals from Simon Om.

On April 6 they fell 4-1 to Malverne. Arthur Syed scored the lone goal for Herricks.

Girls Lacrosse: In their only game of the week the Lady Highlanders defeated Jericho 16-9. Lauren Bascelli scored five goals and had one assist with Kristina Stacom recording eight saves.
