New Hyde Park Boys Volleyball Beats Bethpage, 3-0

Despite some injuries, the New Hyde Park boys volleyball team beat Bethpage in three matches.

It was one, two, three for the team when they played Bethpage on Tuesday afternoon at home, 3-0.

Despite some injuries and not playing their absolute best, according to Head Coach Daniel Eisermann, the team took out Bethpage in three matches.

Heroes: Even with an injured, Senior Stanley Shaji made some key moves throughout the game to help secure the team's win. His ability to find the uncovered areas on Bethpage's court and making key saves helped put the team over.

Senior Dylan Lopez also made some strong efforts. He was often there when a save was needed and made several points off his serves. Senior Michael Maino also had many good serves and, according to Eisermann, "a ton of kills."

Turning Point: Each of the matches was close, sometimes with Bethpage being up by a point. But more often than not, New Hyde Park was up by three points or so.

Quotable: "They played a solid game, but it was not their best, Eisermann said. "There's more to us than that."

Eisermann noted that Shaji was injured and not playing at 100 percent.

"We took a good team out in three," he added.

Bottom Line: Eisermann wants to work on the team's communication in future practices.

Who's Next?: New Hyde Park plays Garden City away on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.

Side note: Between the second and third matches, a Jericho junior varsity soccer player who was in a game on New Hyde Park's field was carted away by an ambulance that drove onto the field after hurting his ankle.
