Sewanhaka District Sports Awards Presented

Before Wednesday night's board of education meeting, the district's fall, winter and spring sports awards were given out.

Before Wednesday night's Sewanhaka board of education meeting, members went to the auditorium to watch the district students receive awards for their sports achievements this year.

The following awards were given to students:

  • The All County award for field hockey went to Paige Sferrazza and Priscila Paulose.
  • The All County award for football: Gregory Goetz
  • The All County award for boys soccer: Nelson Lopez Retana
  • The All Long Island Award for the 200 yard free style relay in swimming: Olivia Chan.
  • The All County, All Long Island, County Champion and Nassau County Record Holder awards for the 200 yard medley relay: Olivia Chan.
  • Olivia Chan was also recognized separately for having the All State, All American, Nassau County Champion & Record Holder award for 200 yard individual medley, the All State, All American, Nassau County Champion & Record Holder award 100 yard breaststroke, the New York State Public School award for the 100 yard breaststroke and a four-year New York State team member.
  • The New Hyde Park girls tennis team was recognized for being Conference B-V champions this fall. The members of that team include: Sonia Augustine, Kiran Bhojani, Natalie Bracco, Melissa Carlay, Stefanie Costas, Pascale Dugue, Meenu, Jayakrishnan, JinkyNicole Layug, Shreya Menon, Amanda Mihok, Radhika Rawani, Theresa Salazar, Ishita Shah, Jasmine Shah, Anum Sheikh, Anna Szynwald, Judith Thomas, Puja Thomas, Suki Tsang and Dana Wizel. The coach of this team is Jim Stagnitta.
  • The All County award for : Ciara McCullagh.
  • The All County award for girls bowling: Daniele Roca and Geri Lynn Roth.
  • The All County award for : Nicole Casale, Elizabeth Giannattasio and Lauren Lynch.
  • The All County award for wrestling: Gregory Goetz.
  • The All County and County Champions award: Christian Dluginski.
  • The All County and All State awards for boys bowling: Jay-Michael Wagan.
  • The Sewanhaka District boys bowling team was recognized for being Nassau County and Conference II Champions. The members of that team are: Tommy Genova (Sewanhaka), Christopher Caressimo (H. Frank Carey), Michael Jarosch (Carey), Joshua Kramey (Carey), Kevin Gamboa (NHP), Jay-Michael Wagan (NHP) and Michael Defalco (Carey). The team's coach is Jay Hegi.
  • The Sewanhaka District girls bowling team won the Conference II Champion. The members of that team are: Amanda Esteves (NHP), Geri Lynn Roth (NHP), Morgan Roth (NHP), Jane Kim (NHP), Kristina Genova (Sewanhaka), Rebecca Gotterbarn (Carey), Daniele Roca (NHP). The coach is Jay Hegi.
  • coach Alan Zarchy received the All Star Coaches award.
  • The following New Hyde Park fall teams received the New York State scholar athlete team award: field hockey, football, boys soccer, boys volleyball, girls soccer, girls tennis and girls volleyball.
  • The following district teams received the New York State scholar athlete team award: girls swimming and girls tennis.
  • The New Hyde Park received the New York State scholar athlete team award.
  • The district gymnastics team New York State scholar athlete team award.
  • was honored separately for being a two-time All County athlete, getting the All Classification A and All State Recognition and she will be attending Johns Hopkins next year to play basketball.
  • Paige Sferrazza was honored separately for being a two-time All County athlete, receiving the All State award, being a member of the lacrosse team and she will be going to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to play field hockey.
