Sewanhaka East Wrestling Loses To Syosset, 57-24

This is the second consecutive loss for the team.

The lost its match on Wednesday night at H. Frank Carey High School to the Syosset Braves, 57-24. This match featured more forgettable moments than memorable ones.

A Syosset Braves team that was finally healthy came out swinging and Sewanhaka East couldn’t respond.  Syosset took the first three matches, leaving a Christian Dluginski victory by forfeit as the only win on the Sewanhaka East ledger entering the 160-pound bout.

It was here that things looked to be turning around for the home team, Sewanhaka East. Jeff Saint–Macary pinned opponent John Bram in 35 seconds to cut the Braves lead to 17–12 after five matches. But the good vibes didn’t last long. Syosset’s Tommy Anderson topped Rob Zorn in the 171-pound match, sending Syosset towards the easy victory.

Hero: Saint-Macary – Of all Sewanhaka East’s victories, his was the most impressive. He made quick work of John Bram, scoring the fastest pin of the night for his team and the second fastest overall. After the victory, the match seemed within reach for Sewanhaka East.

Turning Point: The match was officially turned into a rout after the 189-pound bout between John Mert and Syosset’s Nick Billianis. Although Mert took a quick 2-0, he quickly ran out of gas and was pinned five minutes, 32 seconds into the highly competitive battle. The win left Sewanhaka East on the wrong end of a scoreboard that read 27-12.

Bottom Line: Syosset came out with a fire that Sewanhaka East couldn’t match. Once the Braves got started, there was nothing that could be done to stop them. Sewanhaka East had their fair share of high moments, but they couldn’t string enough of them together to come back from the early deficit.
