Soccer: Herricks 2011 Girls Preview

The Highlanders are looking to do better in a new conference

Coming off a 1-10-1 2010 season, the Herricks girls soccer team is looking to get off to a fresh start to their 2011 campaign. They will be playing in a new conference 2AA, which is based upon ability within enrollment.

"Our team will be much more competitive this year," said Head Coach Lauren Stritzel. "The conference we're playing in is much more appropriate for us in terms of playing teams that are at our level."

Expectations: Stritzel believes the girls will fare better in a new conference even after losing their main goalie, Jackie Grant, and two defenders from the team.

"We lost four seniors and some key members of our defense but return a good core group of girls along our offensive front," she said.

Those girls include sweeper and four-year starter Christina Restivo, Christina Conti and Junior Ali Ricchiuti, who has been on the team since her freshman year.

On defense, the Highlanders will rely on the backfield presence of senior leader Jessica Iammetteo.
