Those already planning for Memorial Day weekend – the unofficial start to the summer – take note.
The Town of North Hempstead will host the annual Memorial Day Commemoration and Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday, May 24, at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.
The event honors those who sacrificed their lives in defense of our nation and will feature the United States Marine Corps Color Guard, Nassau County Police Pipe Band, and the Volunteers of America firing detail.
The live beachfront concert will feature performances by The LP’s, playing the music of Paul McCartney and Chicago, as well as Mack and Soul, featuring popular tunes of yesterday and today. The highlight of the evening will be a fireworks show by Bay Fireworks over Manhasset Bay.
“This event is such a wonderful opportunity for us to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day by paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation,” said Supervisor Bosworth, in a statement.
The park will open at 3:00 pm and the ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Residents are urged to arrive early. Vehicles entering the park will be charged a $10 parking fee. Once the parking lot reaches maximum capacity, buses will shuttle attendees to North Hempstead Beach Park.
