New Hyde Park St. Baldrick's Participants Aim to Top Last Year's Donation

The group raised about $35,000 last year.

Last year's St. Baldrick's event in New Hyde Park raised about $35,000, according to Problem Oriented Policing Unit Police Officer Nick Mosesso, who is organizing the event this year, and the goal on the St. Baldrick's website for this year is to raise $50,000. To date, about $8,215 has been raised, according to the website.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation raises money to fund research for childhood cancers.

There are 25 people slated to get their heads shaved so far at the March 30 event at Marcus Christ Hall at 4 p.m., Mosesso said. If anyone is interested in making a donation or signing up to get their head shaved, they can go to the website to get more information and sign up.

This is the third year that there has been a St. Baldrick's Day event run by the POP and Police Explorer program in New Hyde Park, Mosesso said. There are also several volunteers from the community, including people who work at , who help at the event.

In addition to watching people get their heads shaved for charity, there are also auctions and raffles at the event, Mosesso said.

"I encourage people to come down to witness and make a contribution," Mosesso said.
