Summer Festivals, Speed Dating this Weekend
A look at what's happening around the local area this weekend.
This weekend brings a variety of options, both indoor and out, to the area: Here are some highlights:
Oklahoma Fundraiser
- Country-themed cookout/barbecue with pig roast, hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks,[etc},music, games, prizes and so much more. Please come and help because Oklahoma needs us!
- Insects may be small but they can do amazing things! Meet real live insects and then take a walk outside to find out more in the forest.
- Do you have something old or unique and you wonder if it has some value? Certified appraiser Eddie Costello and his wife Jean, will present a lecture that is both informative and highly entertaining on how to identify today’s hottest antiques and collectibles.
- Pump up your tires, dust off your bikes, and get ready for the 10th Annual C.U.R.B. Bike Ride on Saturday, August 10 at 10 a.m. in Long Beach, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.
- The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its seventh year, helps keep beaches, rivers, parks and lakes across America “barefoot friendly.”
- Indoor Flea Market featuring clothing, household items, bric a brac, new and vintage jewelry, toys, books, linens and much more.
- open this weekend, including Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. The event is on Stewart Avenue at Briarcliffe College for a weekend run.
- What makes this event a bit different is that it's open to all ages (Many speed dating events restricts age groups.) The event is set for 1:30-5 p.m. Saturday at Whoville, 339 Broadway in Bethpage. The cost is $15.75, includes food and prizes. See full details here.
- running at the LIRR station. Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Games, rides, early childhood "Kiddie Land" and food. Fireworks on Saturday night.
- Huntington's Paramount hosts a performance by the Blues Brothers, featuring Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi, brother of the late great John Belushi. The performance is at 8 p.m. at 370 New York Ave.
- Locust Valley hosts its last summer movie night Friday with"Oz The Great and Powerful" Bring blankets, chairs, and friends. Free admission. Rain date is Sunday. Details here
