that is hilarious! video gamers! wait till the jack booted thugs kick in the door and kill a kid. iRead More wonder if these types of police are needed in this day and age. the real danger is the police, the video gamers are lost in the digital age and enjoy a good prank. most of you people are afraid to live, these cops are locked and loaded and looking for a shoot out. police procedure needs to be re-examined. bearing false witness......
Sam April 23, 2014 at 11:10 am
Both the jackass players should be fined. these are the same kids that shoot up the schools whenRead More they're bored with fantasy. The beach is right down the block and your lazy fat ass kid sits on the couch all day gaming. pathetic.
Linda Maloney April 23, 2014 at 11:33 am
This situation is very serious and they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law! IRead More remember thinking ringing someones' doorbell and running away was a prank!

LBPD work traffic control, as NCPD does all the heavy lifting. Way to earn that $200K+ a year!
Massa April 23, 2014 at 11:10 am
Nassau dosn't do that much heavy lifting either. Big salaries for not a lot of service orRead More professionalism. This dumb ass kid should have to pay some of the cost and a lot of community service. It will get him off the video games and give something back to the community.
christie nicolle April 23, 2014 at 11:16 am
my heart goes out to the LB police etc., - wasting precious police time is evil -- shame!

What a loser. He deserves more than a year, but glad he didn't get away with it. What sucks is howRead More he disgraced his family over this. He had a good job, just a greedy person.

Ditto. And bust up the teachers unions.
Nicholas Vernola April 23, 2014 at 10:18 am
Other states are so far ahead of NY in education, but the propaganda of the teachers union, alongRead More with NY Slanted statistics make us pay more and get less
Eugene Falik April 23, 2014 at 10:38 am
It is truly shocking to see the "know nothing" nonsense displayed here. This article justRead More seems like an excuse for every nut to rattle about his/her own pet peeves. And what is more amazing to me, is that those who seem to take the most "conservative" or right-wing positions are most exercised about one of the most blatant atempts at intruding on students' personal liberty that we have seen in a good many years. For those who don't know what it was, inBloom would have put students' most personal information out on the Internet for any hacker, or corporate data miner to see.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 10:47 am
mob mentality. people on this thread dont even understand the ruling. tt, the comparison toRead More sports is absurd. baseball 8% black. hockey? swimming? etc. i dont hear complaints by minority leaders complaing about every facet of life. there is a belief that low test scores , a dearth of black ceo's , etc must be explained by some measure of systemic discrimination. women do it. minorities. heck go to any youth sports program and youll find parents complaing about playing time and favoritism. people complain. sometimes theyre right.
Old Pizza April 23, 2014 at 10:54 am
College admission should be based on scholastic achievement, period.
Observor April 23, 2014 at 11:03 am
One of the primary reasons blacks lag in admission to elite colleges without affirmative action isRead More that a disproportionate number of them come out of horror show urban school systems where they are trapped by an unholy alliance of the teacher unions and the Democrat party. The DTC keeps the unions working regardless of incompetence and in return the unions bankroll the DTC with their members' dues money. Affirmative action is just a way to paper over that "inconvenient truth."
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Kent Frederick April 23, 2014 at 11:20 am
First, every generation thinks that how they learned was better than the next generation. My motherRead More detested New Math. The mantra of New Math was, "We want kids to understand why an answer is correct." My mother used to say that they didn't care in her consolidated school why 2+2=4. That was simply the answer. I hated New Math, but it seems to me that it wasn't as complex as Common Core math. Second, the common refrain is how poorly American students do on various subjects, especially math and science. Yet, the countries that do well tend to me much smaller and much less diverse. I don't think it's an apples-to-apples comparison, when you compare American math aptitude to how students in Singapore perform, or how U.S. kids do in science compared to kids in Finland. Third, there are still plenty of jobs that don't require advanced math and science. Yet, it seems that there is more focus on math and science and less on subjects like history, creative writing, and persuasive writing. Often, down the road, a person has to persuade his boss about a course of action. If he can't write a memo that is clear, concise, easy to read, and persuasive, it won't matter one bit that he can perform complex trigonomic equations or understand the theories of Newton.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 11:22 am
In fact, that brings me back to the 3rd grade Parcc exam that used a 5th grade level X readingRead More passage and 5th grade standards for the questions. Maybe this year we will be told that 80% of schools failed to meet standards. Maybe next year they will use a 4th grade level H text and 4th grade standards on the 3rd grade test, and we will see some improvement. And the next year, when they want to show really impressive gains, they may actually test the standards as written, using the appropriate grade level reading passages. You see why it is a conflict, when the people making the standards are the same people writing the curricula to impart the standards, then making up the tests to test the teaching of the standards, then grading those tests, and keeping everything "confidential" except the final "reports"? I mean, If you can't admit that this is an incredibly incestuous process, than I would say you probably do lack some critical thinking skills. Or else you are just really stubborn.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 11:33 am
"OK, so it doesnt bother you at all that the textbook publishers will now be able to put outRead More only a few curricula, all aligned to the same standards, which they determined themselves, which will reduce their costs tremendously. " They pretty much do that now. As I mentioned a couple of times already, the Common Core standards can be met with a wide variety of Curricula--schools have the same choices as they always have.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.
Gregg L. DesElms April 23, 2014 at 10:36 am
TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.
Should plastic bags be a thing of the past?

Carolina Lewiston April 23, 2014 at 10:40 am
Costco items are bulky and heavy. They cannot fit in plastic bags without ripping instantly. I doRead More not need to carry reusable bags with me. There are plenty of "recycle your plastic bags here" bins that can be used. Its another way for stores to make money by charging you for reusable bags and soon plastic bags. Ikea does the same thing and forces you to buy their blue bags.
CAPICU April 23, 2014 at 11:14 am
OMG I can't believe this; I just saw a plastic bag, float across my office window. It mocked me forRead More a few seconds, as it nonchalantly hovered in midair, taunting me with its bag like features. And just as it came, it quickly vanished from my view. It’s probably hovering its way.... to its next victim.

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. I have to take off my flippin' shoes and get patted down, but apparently you can just walk up and plant a bomb in the wheel well.
april ann April 22, 2014 at 01:30 pm
I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!

Agranon - I'm a moron because I am tired of everybody and his mother trying to put themselves inRead More every story? Then so be it - I'm a moron. To be honest, I am also really tired of all the people that were compelled to run the Boston Marathon because "I had to finish for all those who couldn't." Get over yourself. It was a tragedy. Those responsible should be ripped apart by dogs. I sincerely hope the families of those affected can move on somehow. But how does Mary Jane Smith running the marathon help ANYBODY but herself? She's not doing it for "those who can't". She's doing it to maybe get on TV and she's probably feeling a little sanctimonious because she ran 26.2 miles and you didn't. It's like, "what did YOU do to help these people?" Same as you - nothing.
